Summer Registration is NOW Open

Hi Everyone - I am sending a friendly reminder that summer registration opened today. There are some tremendously valuable electives offered each summer. Given the success of last year's hardiness course and the demand of current students, I am teaching another course on leadership and hardiness. Please visit the following blog if remotely interested, or at least interested to learn about or demystify the concept of hardiness:

Please email me directly if I can provide any additional information. The course is open to GU student but also non-matriculated students simply interested in taking the course.

WCC Conference Tournament & March Madness

It is that time of the year again where the snow melts - or so we hope - and we retreat to the confines of our dens or offices to view mid-day, all-day tournament games. But before we get there, your Bulldogs need to win the Conference Tournament and be assured a ticket to the "big dance". You can find and root for your Bulldogs this weekend and hopefully Monday at the conference championship. Till then, here are some videos I recorded for you from the audience. The energy is contagious and it is simply fun to watch our Kennel Club support their Zags. ENJOY & GO ZAGS!

US Embassy Policy Specialist Program (EPS)

The U.S. Embassy Policy Specialist program (EPS) gives U.S. scholars the opportunity to serve as researchers-in-residence at U.S. Embassies, U.S. Consulates, and USAID Missions in Eurasia.

IREX works with U.S. government representatives in-country to recruit scholar that meet the specific needs of the host Embassy or Mission, with the goal of improving U.S. government access to policy-relevant knowledge and expertise in the region.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Each EPS fellowship lasts one to two months and is structured in consultation with the host Embassy or Mission. As part of the EPS fellowship, participants are provided with visa assistance, international round trip transportation, housing in the country of service, a monthly allowance for living expenses, and emergency evacuation insurance. EPS fellows work closely with U.S. government staff and receive support from field offices in the region.

Spring is in the air!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back from winter break, Christmas celebrations, or winter slumber. Most of you are probably settled in with most classes and re-engaged with your studies and the challenges and/or refining moments found in balancing work, life & school. Given our concurrent enrollment, there are a number of new names and voices in our advising community. Please join this blog and become a follower in order to communicate with me about academic advising related issues or to simply stay caught up on various issues in the program and/or school. Although I would love to connect with all of you via email or phone, the reality for a working student is that most of you prefer a simple method or platform for retrieving information and posing questions. With that said, please reach out via email or phone if I can offer more personalized academic advising and feedback on your process. If you are new to this blog, please scroll through announcement from the Fall 2011 semester. There are a number of blog posts related to academic and program advising.

I also wanted to spotlight that summer enrollment will soon be upon us, along with many decisions about core & elective courses offered in summer. You will notice from our Academic Calendar that there are several important dates to remember, one of which is Summer Registration on March 19th. Do your best to stay true to that deadline since courses fill up fast. As some of you know, we will be offering most core courses, but also a number of electives. I asked my colleagues who typically teach elective courses in the summer to send me their syllabus. The following three electives are offered this summer. Please email me if you are interested in reviewing a specific course syllabus.

  1. Leadership and Hardiness (Mt. Adams residency required)
  2. Heroic Leadership (campus residency required)
  3. Team Building (campus residency required)
Have a wonderful semester!
